BEAUMARIS PIER PROJECT
With work now underway on the £2m project to redevelop and refurbish Beaumaris Pier on Anglesey, Port Penrhyn has been chosen by BAM Nuttall Ltd, the appointed agents to provide loading and berthing facilities for this exciting project .The work will consist of:-
Setting up a mobile crane ( approx 80T ) on dockside for offloading of materials delivered by Road to the port.
Assemble unifloat pontoons to form a floating platform approx 15m long x 5m wide.
Receive delivery of 2 no 762mm diameter piles x 25m long each weighing 12Te.
Receive delivery of a 27m piling frame weighing 20Te in two sections.
All materials will be loaded onto and fastened to unifloat assembly one at a time.
Local workboat will then tow unifloat with materials on across to a large floating pontoon ( The Skerchi ) which will be positioned at the end of Beaumaris Pier. The Skerchi will have a crawler crane mounted on her to lift the materials from the unifloats onto the Skerchi.
The workboat will shuttle between Beaumaris and Port Penrhyn to transport all the materials.
Anglesey council sees the work as a way to secure the long-term future of the pier after recent deterioration.
The finished pier will be double its current width, and all the current timber supports and decking will be strengthened or replaced.
