The Ufo 34 is a cruising and racing fibreglass monohull sailboat class. It is a sloop based on a design by Holman and Pye. The design features a spade rudder and a Bermuda rig with a large, overlapping headsail. Over 150 UFO 34s have been built both in the United Kingdom and Australia.

The UFO 34 is a seaworthy yacht for offshore voyages, including extreme weather conditions, which also performs well in yacht racing. UFO 34 yachts competed both in the disastrous 1979 Fastnet and 1998 Sydney to Hobart yacht races, where lives and yachts were lost in the extreme conditions.UFO 34s performed effectively in both races, winning class IV in the Fastnet race and retiring without incident in the Sydney to Hobart.

Elidir was a home completion boat and took part in the 1993,97 and 1999 Fastnet race.

Owners Comments :-

"Elidir is for sale because the serious ill health of the current owner/skipper has forced his retirement from racing and sailing.

Because the skipper was expected to recover some improvements were begun.

A major upgrade was the complete replacement of the standing rigging.  Elidir has not been launched since this was replaced.

The original engine was replaced, date not known at present. The current engine was supplied and fitted by Dickies.

The original cooker was also replaced by one supplied and fitted by Dickies. Again, date not known at present.

The interior was upgraded for cruising rather than racing, but health circumstances were such that it was not possible to complete the work. Trims to the woodwork are needed, and the saloon ceiling was planned to be replaced. A new floor was planned and some repair is needed to the headlining around the forward hatch.

The berths behind the settees were converted to lockers, but all the work was designed so it could be restored to original if required. The cushions for those berths are available.

New taps with a pump were planned for the heads and the galley but this was not started. Water tanks are under the double and single berths.

A new toilet bowl was to be fitted, although the mechanism was not being replaced.  A space was created for a holding tank although the tank has not been installed.

The engine and toilet were winterized by Dickies. Whatever was put into the toilet bowl has become quite dark.

Interior lights were replaced where needed and a mast light needs replacing.

A chain locker was built in the forward cabin.

There is a full set of sails and various sail covers.  A new spray hood and dodgers were planned but not fitted.  The netting around the deck needs replacing.

A lockable, secure deck locker was begun above the rear single berth. The top was designed and completed by Dickies’ staff but the box underneath has not yet been built."
